A residential facility offering a supportive, safe environment for people 16 years and over who wish to detoxify from alcohol and other drugs and who have no concurrent medical problems. This service is provided by the Hunter/New England Area Health Service.

The Langton Centre

A clinic of Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital, located in Surry Hills. The centre provides detoxification, counselling and group therapy programs. Office open Mon-Fri 9.45-5.30pm. All services are underpinned by a philosophy of harm minimisation.

The Unit predominately services clients from the Greater Western Area Health Service and offers a Residential Detoxification Service and a four week Residential Living Skills Education Program. The detoxification service is primarily for illicit drugs but other drugs are catered for, including methadone. The Living Skills Program enables people to continue on from detoxification, but also caters for people already detoxed.

Patients undergo a medicated detoxification and then attend group therapy. The program educates patients about the nature of addiction, physical and psychological implications, identification of dependant behaviours and relapse prevention strategies.

Programs offered include:

  • New Beginnings - a residential therapeutic program.  It is a service for women and run exclusively by women
  • MTAR (Methadone To Abstinence Residential) - A program to assist clients to reduce off methadone while learning the skills necessary to live drug free.
  • Metro Mens - Provides a safe and secure environment where men who suffer from drug abuse and related problems can concentrate on their recovery.
  • WHOS Hunter Valley - Provide an environment for recovery from drug abuse where AOD workers provide group and individual counselling
