National Leadership Forum on Ice

National Leadership Forum on Ice

In October 2006, the Premier of New South Wales announced a National Leadership Forum on Ice to address the damaging effects of this drug on the community.

The Forum was held in Sydney on 14 December 2006.

The Forum was chaired by the Hon John Hatzistergos MLC, Minister for Health and involved Ministers representing jurisdictions across Australia, as well as experts.

The Forum made recommendations to governments with regard to practical and effective solutions to the emergence of ice in Australia.

Ice is a type of methamphetamine. Methamphetamine is available in a number of different forms, which are the result of different modes of production and levels of purity.

The three main forms are:

·         powder (‘speed’)

·         a waxy substance (‘base’, ‘paste’, ‘wax’)

·         crystals (‘crystal meth’, ‘ice’)
